This past weekend, ATSAR held a fun SAR family weekend camping event in Whitesburg, GA. A number of members camped at nearby Banning Mills Friday night and then spent a fun day of SAR training at the Carroll County Water Authority (a.k.a., “The Dream”) less than a half mile away the next day. This event was open to all interested SAR teams and their families. We were joined by the North Georgia Mounted SAR team from Dawsonville, GA and spent the entire Saturday working with dogs and horses alike. There was plenty for everyone to do which included boat cadaver work, mounted SAR team clue search, and various airscent problems for puppies and advanced dogs. We will continue this yearly spring time event and hope to use opportunities like this to meet and train with our local counterparts within the Search & Rescue community. Ultimately it’s in our best interest to get to know each other better and be prepared to deploy together for real world searches. Thank you to all who participated and especially to those who drove great distances to attend this event.
